Kamel and Aliya Saidi Cultural Society (K&ASCS)
Activities & Workshop
During July 2011, the Society hosted four theatrical workshops organized by Les Amis Des Marionettes in which children were trained to act and perform mime scenes. Several of the children who acted certain roles were awarded participation certificates, souvenir photos, and prizes.
The Society with the assitance of "Les Amis Des Marionettes" organized theatrical workshops for developing children’s creative talents. The children were asked to create a story, choose a scene inspired by the story and draw an innovative picture related to it. The children were then requested to create clay puppets, color them, dress them up and make wigs.
The Society hosted “Les Amis Des Marionettes” (a Lebanese puppet group) to perform four plays during the months of March, April and May. These were: • The Lost Sun City • The Golden Tree • Beyond the Waters • A Tree and a Story. The shows proved highly popular and about 70-100 children between the ages of 5 and 12 attended each show. The puppet shows covered mainly environmental themes: preserving water resources; preventing disposal of waste in rivers and public areas; protecting trees; caring for birds to sustain environmental and biological diversity. Other subjects related to civil and voluntary service were also featured.
Story telling & Book reading (Sara Kasir) promoting, recognizing the importance of improving reading skills, as well as the need to raise general awareness among children, the Society organized a competition based on an environmental book, “The Forest Guardian”, published by SPNL-Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon. Copies of this book were distributed to about 50 children during July 2011 to read and return after filling-in the blanks and answering the questions posed in the book. In September, prizes were awarded to children who completed the work successfully.
